About this place…

Posted in 2010 on March 31, 2010 by Dexter

“Geonosis” is like any other place…if you have enough money, you can get just about anything you need.

This list of items, events and comments will provide a better understanding of what life is like here and at what price (figures are in local currency).

-It has rained twice since November 1, 2009

-Lowest temperature I recorded 67, highest is 100 so far.

-Propane gas – 150,000 per bottle

-Eggs – 1100 each

-Sugar – 7,000 per kg

-Flour – 5,000, comes with free weevils

-Beef filet – 25,000 per kg.  After going to the meat market you can spend up to two hours cleaning the meat.  Only go to the meat market if you have a strong stomach.

-Guard – 10,000 and up per day

-5000 watt diesel generator – 7 million

-New Moto (motorcycle) – 4 to 9 million

-Drive from “Geonosis” to the nearest major city and any kind of grocery shopping will take 6 hours on a good day. Fuel cost of 245,000

-Drive from “Geonosis” to the country’s capital will take 12 hours. Fuel cost of about 890,000

-Fuel cost increased this year to about $5.00 U.S. per gallon.  Stations run out of gasoline and diesel fuel frequently. Kerosene is no longer available in the country at all.

This is what the lines look like when the stations finally get gas.

-Hardwood and softwood is available

-1 case, 24 bottles of soda  – 45,000. Coke, Sprite and Fanta: Orange, grape and fruit punch

-Metal products are usually very thin, cheap and do not last.

-Used bicycle – 500,000 and up

-Decent internet service – 500,000 per month and a major investment upfront.

-Soccer ball – 15,000 to 60,000

-Hardware: Hammers, shovels, picks, wheelbarrows, nails, screws, wire, light bulbs, tape, paint and much more are available.

Here are some everyday items that you normally would find in other places, but not in Geonosis.

-No clean drinking water

-No electricity (personal generator or solar power only)

-No hospital, lab, or surgical facilities

-No “real” traffic laws

-No land line phone service… mobile phone service available…30 second delay to calls across town is free!

-No apples, grapes, Oreo’s, bacon (pork), or “restaurants”.

This is the only McDonald’s around for thousands of miles and it’s not even in “Geonosis”.  Please don’t tell corporate McDonald’s  about this place….I like the manager.

It is done

Much time has passed from my last blog update.  It is now the beginning of February.  The last rain we saw was November 1st and the daytime temperature is edging closer to 100 each day.  Rivers are running very low and some wells are drying up. The tall green grass has dried up or has been burned off giving a clear view of the rocky surface.  This is my first dry season here.  The heels of my feet have become cracked and my hands feel like they could break. There is a thirst here in Geonosis…both physical and spiritual.  Many acknowledge the truth but they refuse to drink from the water of life.  I know of many who have died here.  I have been to some of the funerals.  The spiritual battle that rages here is evident in so many ways.  It pains my soul to see the dead try to help the dead get into paradise by works.  They search for God but they walk down a path of futile works trying to tip the scales of judgment in their favor.

And he said to me, “It is done! I am the Alpha and the Omega, the beginning and the end. To the thirsty I will give from the spring of the water of life without payment.” Revelations 21:6

I know that the Holy Spirit is at work among the people here.  Please join with us in prayer that they will hear and understand that payment has been made and that “It is done”.  Pray for Salvation, Mercy and Grace to rain down on the people of Geonosis and that they will have the courage to drink the water of Life.

A Good Man

Posted in 2010 with tags , , , on January 18, 2009 by Dexter

“This is a good man”.  This is what Penn (From Penn and Teller) said about a businessman that gave him a Gideon Bible.  Penn went on to say how much we (Christians) must hate a person if we really believe in Heaven and Hell and yet don’t proselytize to that person.  This story has run through various internet blogs like wildfire.  Did this hit a sore spot in our spiritual armor and if so why?  Do we truly believe that salvation and the grace of God is for all people? That businessman went to see an atheist show which bashes Christian beliefs.  Then he returned to offer Penn a gift and kind words.  How often this is repeated each day, hidden from the cameras and media, only God knows?  It’s an amazing thing when we share God’s love through random acts, without bias toward the person or situation.  I PRAY for the harvest and the good and obedient works…Matthew 9:37.   *View the video at bottom right to hear Penn’s story in his own words.

Tunnel Vision

Posted in 2010 with tags on January 9, 2009 by Dexter

I just put on my first pair of bifocals today.  The glasses give me the feeling of having tunnel vision.  There is only a small area in which my vision is good and that is straight ahead.  My bifocals remind me how God is leading my life at this time.  I look down to the task that is right in front of me, but when I look up I can see the larger goal that God is leading me to.  As long as I keep God in focus in front of me,  I know that I’m on the right path.

-Someone is coming to look at our house on Friday.  Please pray that they make an offer on the house and that they will feel God’s peace in this house.
